Dementia Day Centre in Bristol & South Gloucestershire

When someone you love is living with dementia, things don’t change overnight.

It starts small.

They’re a bit quieter.
Less confident.
Not going out as much as they used to.

Then slowly, your world starts to shrink around them.

You find yourself thinking:

  • How do I keep them occupied during the day?
  • How do I stop them becoming isolated?
  • How do I keep everything going without burning out?

We hear this every week from families.

And more often than not, this is the point where people start looking into day support.

So what actually is a dementia day centre?

Put simply, it’s somewhere your loved one can go during the day, spend time with others, and have a day that feels a bit more like it used to.

But the right day centre isn’t just about filling time.

It’s about:
• Having something to look forward to
• Being around other people again
• Feeling part of something, not just cared for

And for you, it’s having a block of time where you’re not “on” every second.

Why families start looking at this option

It’s rarely a big decision all at once.

It usually comes from a build-up of things.

Days becoming longer.
Less structure.
More repetition.
A bit more confusion creeping in.

Or sometimes, it’s you.

Feeling tired.
Trying to juggle everything.
Not quite getting a proper break.

And even if you don’t say it out loud, there’s often that thought sitting underneath it all:

“Am I doing enough?”

What we’ve seen work (and what doesn’t)

Not all day centres are the same.

Some feel busy and overwhelming.
Some feel a bit… flat.

And some just don’t quite understand dementia in a real, practical way.

What we’ve learned over the years is this:

It’s not about packing a day full of activities.

It’s about getting the balance right.

The right pace.
The right environment.
The right people in the room.

Because that’s what helps someone settle in and actually enjoy being there.

Why we decided to create something different

Over the years, we’ve supported hundreds of families across Bristol and South Gloucestershire.

And alongside that, we’ve had a lot of conversations about day support.

What’s out there.
What works.
What doesn’t quite fit.

So when we started looking at what was available locally, we knew we wanted to create something that felt more like an extension of what we already do well.

Something smaller.
More personal.
More in tune with how dementia actually affects someone day to day.

A new option in Hanham – £65 for a full day

We’re opening a small, dementia-focused day centre in Hanham.

It’s been built around everything we know about supporting people properly.

  • A full 6-hour day (10:30 – 16:30)
  • £65 per day
  • A small group, so it never feels overwhelming
  • A team who understand dementia inside out
  • A day that feels structured, but not rigid

Not just somewhere safe.

Somewhere people feel comfortable.
And actually want to come back to.

What difference can it make?

For the person attending, we often see:

• More confidence over time
• A better sense of routine
• More interaction and conversation
• Moments of enjoyment throughout the day

And for you, it creates space.

Space to:

• Get things done
• Go to work
• Rest
• Or just switch off for a few hours

That space is often the thing that helps everything else feel more manageable.

“But they won’t want to go…”

This is one of the biggest worries we hear.

And it makes complete sense.

Anything new can feel unsettling.

But when it’s introduced in the right way,
in the right environment,
with the right people…

We often see people settle far more quickly than families expect.

Is it the right time?

If you’re starting to think about it, there’s usually a reason.

It might be that:

• Days are becoming harder to manage
• Your loved one isn’t doing as much as they used to
• You’re feeling stretched or tired
• Or things just feel a bit more uncertain than they did before

You don’t have to wait until things reach breaking point.

Sometimes putting support in place earlier makes everything feel steadier.
