About Coalpit Heath
As the name suggests, Coalpit Heath was once an important coal-mining centre. From the 17th through the 19th centuries, pits in the area supplied fuel to Bristol and beyond, with miners’ cottages and communities growing around them. Although the collieries have long since closed, the village retains its mining heritage in place names and local memory. Today it is a popular residential village with good access to the countryside and the Bristol urban area.
