About Soundwell
Soundwell developed as part of the coal-mining belt of South Gloucestershire. The area’s name is thought to refer to a spring or water source (“well”) in the district. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, rows of housing were built for miners and their families. Though the pits have closed, Soundwell retains a strong community identity and is now a largely residential suburb of Bristol.
